Monsterman's 31 Days of Halloween Horror Picks

Halloween (1978)

Good eeeevvvvning ghouls and boils. I’m a little sad tonight for this is the last post for my Halloween Horror Picks. What I have in store for you tonight shouldn’t be too big of a surprise. We have a double feature of the best horror film of them all, the original Halloween by John Carpenter and it’s worthy sequel, Halloween II.

This John Carpenter classic started it all. Michael Myers was there before Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger or Scream. No one will ever be able to equal what Carpenter accomplished with this film. For many years, Halloween was the most successful independent film of all-time.

Halloween is written by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. It is also directed by John Carpenter.

The cast includes Donald Pleasence, Jamie Lee Curtis, Nancy Loomis, P.J. Soles, Charles Cyphers, Kyle Richards, Tony Moran.

Plot Synopsis

A psychotic murderer institutionalized since childhood for the murder of his sister, escapes and stalks a bookish adolescent girl and her friends while his doctor chases him through the streets.

Halloween II (1981)

This extremely competent sequel to the original film is better than most slasher films out there but is inferior to its predecessor. Carpenter decided not to direct this film but still wrote the screenplay for it. This film picks up immediately after the events of the first film as Laurie Strode is the only survivor of Michael Myers carnage and is rushed to the local hospital. Myers realizes he didn’t finish the job and tracks her down there where she has to again fight for her life. The first two films are the best in the series and the next sequels continue to decline in quality with each one.

Halloween II is written by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. Rick Rosenthal directs this time around.

The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, Charles Cyphers, Jeffrey Kramer, Lance Guest, Pamela Susan Shoop, Hunter von Leer, Leo Rossi and Dick Warlock as the Shape.

Plot Synopsis

While Sheriff Brackett and Dr. Loomis hunt for Michael Myers, a traumatized Laurie is rushed to hospital, and the serial killer is not far behind her.
