Nancy Kyes was born in Virginia during the month of December 1949. She pursued a degree in science with a minor in theater from Northwestern University in Illinois. Eventually, she became an actress by working with one of the most well known men in horror movie history.
Nancy got her first big break by landing a supporting role in Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), her first of three occasions where she worked with the legendary John Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter enjoyed working with her so much that he created a role that was made just for her – Annie in Halloween (1978). Annie was one of the three female leads, best friends to Laurie Strode, who ends up strangled by Michael Myers in the infamous car scene. Next, she played a supporting role in The Fog (1980). After that Carpenter also gave her a supporting role in Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982). Though it’s considered to be in the same franchise, Nancy played a different character since Annie had obviously died two installments before. Her last credited horror role was a single episode of “The Twilight Zone” in 1985.
Outside of the horror genre, Ms. Kyes’ roles include cameos in family film The Sea Gypsies (1978) and dramas Not in Front of the Children (1982) and Lady Boss (1992).
So, where is Nancy Kyes now?
Well, she can be seen lending commentaries to the documentaries Halloween: 25 Years of Terror (2006) and Halloween: The Inside Story (2010). Other than that, Nancy left Hollywood in 1993 and started a family. She now has two daughters and works as an independent sculptor in California. She’s quite original and thought provoking with her creations, using pieces of trash and broken toys to craft works of art. She’s had about 13 exhibitions to showcase her art as of 2004.
