The IndieGoGo campaign for ‘Massacre At Femur Creek’, an Canadian indie horror-comedy short, has been having a good couple of weeks.
After going live on May 23rd, the campaign was fully funded of it’s contribution goal within a week on the popular crowd funding site. Since then it has nearly surpassed $2,000 (as of this press) in contributions, and there are still weeks to go on the campaign. Massacre At Femur Creek is being touted as a 1980’s slasher film throwback, with an underlying satire on social media and our reliance on modern day technology to survive. Campaign leader and writer/director Kyle Hytonen equates the film to be along the lines of “Friday The 13th meets Wet Hot American Summer”.
Hytonen, who is featured in a very witty “Pitch” video on the campaign page, is very surprised by the reaction to his film’s campaign. “I thought maybe I’d be lucky with hitting my goal ($1,100) in about a month, I never thought it would ever go this far.” Hytonen said the extra funds raised past the production budget will go to the post-production and marketing of the film. “This means we can spend more time on the color correction, the premiere will be better, we can submit it to more festivals and get more people to see it than we ever expected.”
Hytonen’s last horror short Follow, released last year, has been touring the festival market in both the US and Canada and was recently picked up for distribution through Virgina based company Filthy Fingernails Productions. Massacre At Femur Creek will be going into production in July.
