Amy Steel was born in Pennsylvania during the summer of 1960. She was a happy, bright child who always dreamed of pursing a career in the limelight. During her high school and college years, Amy studied broadcasting, communication, and dramatic arts. It was during her university years that she ran into an agent from Elite Modeling. After that interaction, and booking several commercials and ad campaigns, that her career started to take off.
Her first two acting credits are notable in fact, having appeared in arcs on iconic soap operas “Guiding Light” and “All My Children” in 1980.
Horror fans, however, will recognize Amy Steel the most from her role as Ginny in the 1981 sequel Friday The 13th Part 2. Fun Fact: Ginny was supposed to die at the end of Friday the 13th Part 2. Producers changed it around so someone would survive and even went as far as asking Amy to return as Ginny in Friday the 13th Part 3. Unfortunately, Steel’s ill-advised agents had her decline the role to keep her schedule open for “bigger and better things.” #fail
Fresh off of her success in Friday The 13th Part 2, Amy returned to television and started immediately booking new and exciting spots. These included “Family Ties” in 1982, “Chips” and “The A-Team” in 1983, and a two season run on “For Love and Honor” which ended in 1984.
Amy Steel returned to horror again in another cult classic: the 1986 mystery thriller April Fool’s Day. In this film she played the role of Kit. Fun Fact: The only horror remake she has appeared in is the 1991 TV movie Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?
Finishing out the millennium strong, and in television, Amy once again graced the small screen with guest spots on “Quantum Leap” in 1990, “Home Improvement” and “Diagnosis Murder” in 1994, and “American Gothic” in 1996.
So, where is Amy Steel now?
Well, it looks like Amy decided it was time to settle down. Besides her guest appearance on an episode of “Jag” in 2000 and lending commentary to various Friday The 13th documentaries, she’s been absent from the entertainment industry. Although, she has a small role in the upcoming Alan Rowe Kelly feature, Tales of Poe, coming out sometime in 2014 or 2015.
Instead, Ms. Steel started a family and gave birth to two healthy children. She now works full time as a marriage and family therapist; and owns her own practice specializing in adolescent and mid-life transitions.
