Stacy Still, the driving force behind wanting the release, was kind enough to answer a few questions about why she wants the release:
1. What is it about the films that makes you want to see them released on Blu-Ray?
– I grew up on horror (Fright Night, The Lost Boys, The Midnight Hour, ect). Waxwork was a movie that held special memories for me back when I used to be able to rush to the horror section at the old school mom and pop video stores. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that iconic cover of the midget opening the door with all those melting faces just stuck with me. Years later after re-watching it along with it’s sequel in HD on Fear Net I was blown away by how after all these years the movies held up, and how beautiful they looked. The two Waxwork movies are fun horror adventure movies that still hold up today. As a massive fan of each one I want to see these two cult classics get the same treatment so many other films have gotten. They deserve their chance to shine, and have such memorable scenes such as the graveyard scene from part one, and the horses surrounding the couple in the forest seen in the format they were intended to be seen on!
2. If you had your ideal list of things to see on the edition, what would you want to see?
– Hum, good question. As I mentioned before there was a short making-of shot for the original back in 1988. I feel as a Waxwork fan seeing that would be a real treat. I would love a commentary of both films with Galligan and Hickcox, and perhaps and brand new up to date making of feature showing the film’s locations, and the cast/crew’s reactions to how welcomed and loved these two movies are after all these years. Oh and that epic music video that plays at the end of part 2. Now that was classic.
3. What do you hope the new generation of horror fans that have never seen these films will take away from viewing them?
– I want a new generation to see that there are certain movies that don’t need massive amounts of sex, blood, and slaughter to make a movie film fun. (I mean it helps, but come on now). These movies are fun little adventures, and have a storyline, and effects that still hold up today. I want a new audience to see what good clean fun these two films were. This was back when movies seemed a little more sincere. Like I said, I’ve heard from the original it’s almost like an 80’s version of Cabin In The Woods. These are two movies that pay tribute to classic films that paved the way for horror and suspense. I also want to meet some people who get misty eyed at the end of part II when Mark tells Sarah he loves her as she goes through the mirror. Just saying…
