Interview: Angela Pritchett, Porkchops and Plan 9 Actress (and Horror Nut)

*Angela Pritchett is my first interview of 2012! She gets the “Yay For You!” award in my nonexistant awards show. I first learned about Angela while promoting one of her films, Porkchops, where she plays the quirky character of Meg. Since then we’ve formed a cool little friendship on Facebook so I’m more than happy to introduce her to readers who may not be aware of her presense in the indie film world. Angela has several very interesting projects that are coming up including the Planet 9 From Outer Space remake, Plan 9. Check out my interview with her below to read about all of her cool upcoming projects.

Q: To start things off, can you introduce yourself to the readers?

A: Hello! I am Angela Pritchett, actress, special FX makeup artist, costumer and all around Horror Nut! I was born in Charlottesville, Va. I have a degree in music education and play the oboe! Thank you all for checking out this interview!

Q: The Porkchop franchise is receiving a lot of buzz lately. You pop up in the second movie, Porkchops. Can you tell readers about your character in the film?

A: I play Meg, a rather crazy teenager, who is really interested in the Porkchop killings in her town.  She befriends the new kid in town, Simon, and from there things get crazy! Meg is very outgoing and full of life, which is one thing that made her such a fun character to play in the film.

Q: What was the overall experience like for you on the set of Porkchops? I’ve heard a lot of funny behind-the-scenes stories from other cast members.

A: The Porkchops set was such a fun set to be on. The guys at Razor Sharp Studios have a great time filming, while also getting their stuff done. So many funny things happened on set, I think just the sheer goofiness of the scene between Simon and Meg, in Simons room and all the crazy outtakes they probably have from that (one was in the bloopers at the end of the film) has to be one of the funniest memories for me. Along with the singing, we would practice our lines in such a cheesy musical fashion that is just a really fun experience.

Q: Even though it’s nowhere near production, Porkchopp3D, has been announced. Do you think you’ll return for the third entry?

A:  I will be returning for the third film. I am really excited and we start filming in March.  The money for the film, once finished, will go towards Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. It is great to be part of a film that will also help a great charity! There is an indigogo fundraiser going on now for anyone who would be interested in donating to the film so it can be made. The film is also be shot in 3D so that is really awesome!! Cannot wait to see what type of trouble Meg has gotten herself into in Porkchopp3D!

Q: Plan 9 is another film of yours and is actually a remake of the critically panned Planet 9 From Outer Space. What do you think will keep Plan 9 from suffering the same fate (being critically panned, that is)?

A: John Johnson’s Plan 9 had such a solid script, I really think everyone who watches it will really enjoy it. It follows the same general story as the original but throws in a few other loops and has some amazing actors in it.  It was a lot of fun to be in. Oh! And the makeup effects are really great too! Which I may be biased since I was one of the Fx artist on set along with Mariah Johnson of BioDuck FX, but there are some really crazy makeup FX in this film, one actually made two of our crew members feel sick/nauseous when we were filming it!

Q: Scarecrow at Midnight is a film that you worked on as a writer and an actress. Can you tell me a little about your roles in production, and why you’ve taken this film under your wing?

A: While working on another film with Mutantville Productions titled G.H.O.S.T. I mentioned to the director that once we were finished we should do a scarecrow short film. I absolutely love scarecrows in the horror genre and really wanted to do a scarecrow story.  Eventually Mutantville decided to do an anthology, titled Tales from Mutantville, including some other shorts they had done as well. I helped develop the story for Scarecrow at Midnight, worked on makeup and also play the part of Megan. The Tales from Mutantville DVD should be available sometime this year so keep a look out for it. I also did make up FX for one of the other shorts on the DVD titled Family Fiend!

Q: Speaking of films that you care a lot about, we’ve chatted a few times about Mr. Bubbles! I know all about it, but would you like to inform readers about it too?

A:  Mr. Bubbles is the second short film I have directed, written, and the first film I have composed the music for (putting that music degree I have to work). It follows the story of a girl named Anette (played by myself), a man named Charles (played by Jarod Kearney, Eros from Plan 9), and Mr. Bubbles the lovable Teddy Bear. It has been sent to various film festivals and hopefully some of the readers will get to see it soon!

Q: To finish things off, what is the one thing you’d like readers to take away from this interview – whether it be about you, your films, etc? And, being that it is a new year – what do you hope to achieve in 2012?

A:  Thanks for reading the interview! Keep an eye out for me and the rest of the Porkchops and Plan 9 crew at some of the horror conventions on the East Coast! I’ll be attending a whole slew of them at the beginning of the year when I am not filming or doing FX on films! For the 2012 year I just want to be able to continue doing what I love, acting and FX.  I have a bunch of projects just being filmed in the first three months of the new year! Hopefully a bunch more after that! I am really excited for everything that I have coming up and for anything else that I am lucky enough to be a part of!

Q: Favorite horror film:

A: That’s a hard one, I am a huge Asian horror nut, so my favorite Asian Horror Film would have to be Ringu (and the remakes as well, the Korean and American remakes are some of the best I think, funny enough they don’t follow the book it was remaking very well at all). As for horror in English I would have to say Bride of Frankenstein. I absolutely love classic horror. It is really hard for me to pick a “modern” horror film that is my favorite since I have my favorite films in each of their sub genres but not a specific film above all.

* Thank you for your time, Angela. Anyone reading this interview should check out Angela’s IMDB page here to see her full body of work; and make sure you like the page to increase her star-o-meter.
