Film Mode Entertainment (FME) announces the launch of psychological thriller, Past Life, starring Emmy and Golden Globe-award winning Actor and Comedian Jeremy Piven (Entourage), William Moseley (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Royals), Tim McInnerny (Notting Hill, Gladiator 2, One Day) and pop star/actress, Pixie Lott. FME has taken on global sales rights. Production on Past Life will start in February 2025 in Manchester (UK).
Simeon Halligan, head of Grimmfest, Manchester’s International Festival of Fantastic Film, will direct. Halligan, a Royal College or Art graduate, previous feature directing credits includes The Blood Lands and Habit. Past Life was written by Halligan, Dean Lines and Ray Bogdanovich (Hounded, The Banishing).
“We are thrilled to be working with the incredible Past Life team, and to have launched the film to the global marketplace at AFM,” said Clay Epstein, President of Film Mode Entertainment. “The immense talent in front of and behind the camera, along with a captivating and gripping story will have audiences on the edge of their seats from start to finish.”
Past Life follows Jason Frey (Moseley), an investigative reporter who reluctantly agrees to attend a hypnotism event with his pregnant wife Claira (Lott). Under hypnosis, Jason witnesses a murder through the eyes of a psychotic killer. Haunted by what he has seen, Jason partners with the hypnotist (Piven) to use ‘past life regression’ techniques to investigate a series of unsolved murders from the 1980s while unwittingly reawakening a psychotic killer’s tendencies.
The film is produced by Rachel Richardson-Jones of Grimmfest Films (The Blood Lands), Pierre Romain of Worldwide Entertainment and Media (Son of the South), and Michael Laundon of M2 MediaPost (Endless) and executive producers Michael Bassick (Hacksaw Ridge) and Clay Epstein. The film is financed through a combination of private equity, a sales MG and the recently increased UK Film tax credit, with support from Manchester film studio, The Vectar Project.
“Past Life is an exciting psychological thriller that combines the rush of ’80s thrillers like DePalma’s Blow Out, with the conceptual complexity of movies like Nolan’s Memento. I can’t wait to share this twisty-turny mind-bender with audiences,” Halligan said.
Richardson-Jones added: “We are so excited that Jeremy, William, Pixie and Tim will be joining us for Past Life. It’s a testament to the quality of the screenplay that such wonderful acting talent is drawn to the piece, and we know their involvement will make Past Life something very special.”
