Almost 45 years after Charles B. Pierce’s original THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN was released in 1976, small indie horror director, Brandon Neil Schultz is working on getting a remake of the film in the works. He and Pierce’s daughter Pamula, have been working on getting this off the ground ever since the Blumhouse released their metasequel back in 2014.
“I’m writing a scary slasher screenplay, honoring the original film’s flavor. After that I’m going to try and finance it with private funding so it can remain independent like the original.”
This is Brandon’s first major credit as a director and writer, although he has wrote some smaller films for local filmmakers in the past. I would expect to see a crowdfunding campaign to help support financing for the film. If, however, funding isn’t an issue, the remake should start filming soon after.
“I’ve spoke with Pamula about a remake, she was all in for it. She told me she always loves seeing younger filmmakers get inspired by her father’s films.”
The original was set in the late 40’s. The residents of Texarkana, Texas are left terrorized by a mysterious hooded killer who is stalking victims during the evening and leaving the local police at a loss.
