A cellphone serves as a lifeline for a kidnap victim in Connected, a remake of a Hollywood blockbuster.

Hollywood has time and again produced many remakes of Asian movies. Now, in a role reversal, an American movie gets a Chinese remake instead.

Connected (Bo Chi Tung Wah in Cantonese), based on New Line Cinema action thriller Cellular (2004), is said to be the first Hong Kong remake of a Hollywood blockbuster. It is jointly produced by Warner China Film HG and Emperor Motion Pictures.

Top Hong Kong action director Benny Chan Muk Sing was in town recently with Hong Kong actor Louis Koo Tin Lok and Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu Hsi Yuan to promote their new film Connected.

The movie also stars Hong Kong actors Nick Cheung, Eddie Cheung, Flora Chan and Fan Siu Wong as well as award-winning mainland Chinese actor Liu Ye with a cameo by rising mainland Chinese actress Gong Beibi.
