A little bit of delayed news this morning, but I wanted to send my condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Simon Sayce. Mr. Sayce passed away on Tuesday, June 20th 2017, following a battle with cancer. As a special effects master and one of a kind artist, Sayce is most known for creating the Lament Configuration Box, the puzzle box used to summon Pinhead in the iconic Hellraiser franchise.
The news was even confirmed by Pinhead himself, Doug Bradley, and Hellraiser 2 co-star Barbie Wilde.
Besides making one of the most recognizable props in all of horror history, Simon Sayce worked behind-the-scenes in a number of other movies including The Unholy (1988), The Lair of the White Worm (1988), I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle (1990), and Nightbreed (1990).
He can also be seen in the recent Hellraiser documentary, Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser and Hellraiser 2, of which I have included a clip of his interview below.
Rest in Peace, Simon.
