A lot of movie fans credit Scary Movie (2000) as the film that gave Anna Faris her big break. In actuality, this footnote is attributed to the 1999 independent slasher Lovers Lane. This gory, fun, modest horror flick saw Faris in her first lead role, one that required her to wear a cheerleading uniform for the entire shoot, if I remember correctly. You see, I, like many others, already own the movie on DVD. Lovers Lane debuted on VHS and later on DVD in 2000 before taking the typical plunge into obscurity. Luckily, advances in technology have brought a lot of older movies into the hands of horror fans through limited editions, Blu-ray copies… and streaming!
Yes, the rumors are true. Jon Steven Ward’s Lovers Lane is now available to stream through Amazon Instant Video. If you ever wanted to see this movie, but didn’t want to shell out all that money – Lovers Lane is rentable on the retailer for just $1.99! You can also add it to your online catalogue forever for just $7.99! I think these prices are well worth it for the experience of this almost-retro gem.
Based on the screen play by Geof Miller and Rory Veal, the film also stars Erin J. Dean, Riley Smith (“Frequency,” “Nashville”), Sarah Lancaster (“Chuck,” “Witches of East End”), Billy O’Sullivan and Matt Riedy (“Conan,” “General Hospital”). It also features a cameo by WWE’s Jim Ross.
Synopsis: Thirteen years ago, two young lovers were brutally murdered at Lovers Lane by a crazed killer wielding a steel hook. The killer was caught, but the scars he left behind never healed. Now it’s Valentine’s day again and the killer has escaped with revenge in his heart–and his deadly hook. When a group of teens head up to Lovers Lane for a little romance, the action gets hotter than they planned.
