A little movie titled RED LIKE BLOOD, a found footage crime thriller that was shot between 2003 and 2005, is finally available in a remastered version from a 2K master. The movie is very realistic and was described as ANTI-CINEMA for the daring and unique style of film-making. Many viewers first thought that it was indeed found footage material that somehow surfaced, while others thought that the actors inside were amateurs and that the movie had no script. The fact is that the movie was well planed during a 3-year period with 4 years before that for preparation. A very low budget movie, that was shot mostly on spare time of the actors and the director, with a very small crew.
The weird thing about this one, is that at least 3 actors lost their minds and their control during the shootings. The knives were real and the director never yelled CUT, the actors kept fighting until they lost their temper and forgot that the camera was there. At least 3 people were almost stabbed and the whole thing was so close to become illegal. The director could actually sit in jail if anything lethal had happened during the production. The actors were professionals who played amateur actors that cannot act in made-up crime stories for a female student reporter, who wanted to surprise everybody in her university with a great documentary on everyday-crime.
The technique that was used is truly remarkable and the result was a movie that is almost unwatchable, even by documentary standards. Additional footage was shot in 2006 and the new version was actually smaller and felt like a movie for the first time. All the snuff elements were still there, but some narration was added, so that the viewer could be entertained by the final result. It is still a very weird horror thriller, an experiment in film-making, an indie production like no other. The remastered version restores all the original elements and the full glory of this little movie, while a dubbed English version is on its way. There are talks for a 2017 remake that will go beyond the original movie and will elevate the whole concept to a new level.
