It’s been six long years since the last Saw film, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter. Now Lionsgate has hired two writers to pen the next installment which is intended to reboot the franchise. Saw: Legacy is being written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.

Stolberg and Goldfinger both have previous horror film experience working together with writing duties on Sorority Row, Piranha 3D and Piranha 3DD.

The film will will serve as the eighth installment of the venerable horror franchise. Although story details are being kept tightly under wraps, original Saw director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell will serve as executive producers on the project.

The Saw film franchise turned out to be extremely profitable despite pans by the critics. The franchise has gone on to gross $875 million dollars throughout the franchise’s twelve year history. The Saw films have helped launch the careers of co-creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Wan has gone on to become one of the most sought after directors in Hollywood after directing the hit films The Conjuring, Furious 7, and the upcoming Aquaman film. Whannell has gone on to help create the popular Insidious franchise.

The Saw films helped to usher in the age of “Torture Porn” which include gratuitous violence and imaginative death scenes.

We’ll be keeping a very close eye on this as it develops so keep it right here at Horror Society for the latest news on the new Saw film!
