Don’t miss our special “one night only” Grindhouse Film Festival event on Tuesday, August 24th, as we present an incredible new documentary along with a vintage rarity that never gets screened theatrically and a mind-blowing 40-minute trailer reel put together just for this event. First up is AMERICAN GRINDHOUSE, a fast-paced journey through the history of American exploitation films that in a short but thrilling 82 minutes hurt…les through the sleazy underside of the film industry from the dawn of motion pictures up until the “anything goes” 1970′s. Produced, written and directed by B-movie experts (and New Beverly regulars) Elijah Drenner, Calum Waddel and Dan Greene, the documentary features narration by Robert Forster and includes interviews with many of the major figures in the history of exploitation. The film is an amazing introduction to exploitation films for anyone just starting to explore the bizarre world that has always existed in the shadows of Hollywood, and for those of us with a long-standing interest in the genre there are some great interviews and some incredibly rare (and high quality) footage that the filmmakers have dug up. As an added bonus, we’ll have an introduction and Q&A with filmmakers Elijah Drenner and Dan Greene along with very special guests Larry Cohen, Robert Forster, Jack Hill, Jeremy Kasten and Lewis Teague.
Following the documentary we’ll be screening the 1953 oddity DANCE HALL RACKET. Directed by Phil Tucker of ROBOT MONSTER fame, the film was written by comedian Lenny Bruce who stars alongside his stripper wife Hot Honey Harlow and Timothy Farrell from GLEN OR GLENDA! An incredibly cheap production that clocks in at a paltry 60 minutes, the film is a wonderfully surreal experience that in its ineptness comes close to being an art film. This film never gets screened theatrically, so don’t miss your chance to see it projected from a rare original 35mm print.
As an extra special bonus, we’ll be rounding the evening out with TWO reels of rare 35mm film trailers tracing the history of American exploitation films from the 1930′s through the 1970′s. The entire evening is guaranteed to shock, titillate and amaze!
The event starts at 7:30pm, and admission for the double-feature, raffle and TWO reels of rare exploitation trailers is still only $8.00. You won’t find a bigger bang for your entertainment dollar during this economic meltdown!
