Cameron McCasland’s The Lashman Nominated For Prestigous Rondo Award
03.11.2015 (Nashville, TN) – Red Headed Revolution Pictures is proud to announce that Cameron McCasland’s micro-budget indie film The Lashman has been nominated for Best Independent Film at the 13th annual Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards.
The Rondo awards, named for 1940’s character actor Rondo Hatton, is a completely fan voted event, and is open to the public. The awards promote scholarship, innovation, and preservation. Since 2002 it has honored the best in film, television, and publishing in the horror, scifi, and fantasy genres. All voting is administered by e-mail. Voters are encouraged to vote in as many, or few of the 35 categories as they wish.
The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards are presented by the Classic Horror Film Board and overseen by USA TODAY front-page editor, and self proclaimed monster kid, David Colton. The awards founded by Colton, and illustrator Kerry Gammill feature a
miniature bust of Hatton seen in the Universal Studios 1946 film “House Of Horrors.” The award was designed by Gammill and cast by Tim Lindsey and Byron Salisbury.
The Lashman is a tale of terror. Five friends set out for a weekend camping excursion to find that their camp fire tales have turned into their worst nightmares, as a ghoulish whip wielding cowboy mercilessly pursues them. The movie stars Stacey Dixon, Shawn C. Phillips, David Vaughn, Jeremy Jones, Kaylee Williams, Tim Emery, Lee Vervoort, David Chattham, Terry Gragg, Todd Bush, Alea Jordan, Joe Downing and Larry Underwood. The indie film was shot on location in western Kentucky.
The Lashman marks the feature length film debut for Cameron McCasland who wrote, produced, and directed the movie. McCasland honed his film making skills in television on Dr. Gangrenes Creature Feature and directing music videos. He was previously nominated for a Rondo Award for co-directing the 2010 made for television movie, The Dreadful Hallowgreen Special. In 2008 McCasland was the recipient of a special humanitarian Rondo, “The Vasaria Public Service Award,” for his work on the Go Green With Dr. Gangrene series of short films promoting environmental concerns through the eyes of monsters.
McCasland said of the nomination, “We are all thrilled that The Lashman has been nominated alongside so many other wonderful pieces of work. The Rondos truly are my favorite of all the trophies that get handed out this time of year. I think its fantastic that a little DIY film like ours can rub up against some of the bigger Hollywood flair. Long live Rondo.”
The Lashman held its world premiere Saturday April 19th 2014 at the 13th Annual Full Moon Horror Film Festival in Nashville, TN. It went on to screen at film festivals around the United States including Mayday Film Fest, Fright Night Film Fest, Fandom Fest, and The Fantastic Horror Film Festival where McCasland was nominated for Best Director. The film has become a critical darling garnering rave reviews, with many noting its nostalgic tone and harkening back to classic slasher film sensibility. It was recently awarded a Matchflick Flicker Award for “Best Throwback Film of 2014.”
Voting for the Rondo Awards closes on April 19th 2015 with winners to be announced online. An awards presentation will be held during WonderFest in Louisville Kentucky on the final weekend of May 2015. For more information, and to see the complete list

Cameron McCasland is an Emmy nominated writer and film producer. In addition to The Lashman, his most recent film works include “I Heard The Devil Say My Name Out Loud,” “Paternity Leave,” the upcoming “Tallypo” and “The VP Underground.” The Texas born director lives in Nashville, TN with his wife Jamie, and two daughters.
