About the Director
Aleen Isley has been working with Silver Spotlight Films since 2012. In the years since, she has co-written the well-known CarousHELL trilogy of movies, as well as Curtains for Christmas. On set, Aleen wears many hats including but not limited to : actress, script supervisor, storyboard artist, location scouter, costume designer, casting department, puppetry, set dressing, even boom operator. Needless to say, she is very accustomed to working on a multitude of micro-budget productions.
Aleen’s original background is in Musical Theater and stage performance. She holds degrees in Education and Theater from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA. She was also a participant in the Theatrical program at Belfast Metropolitan College in Northern Ireland in 2007. While she loves to perform on stage, she also serves as a scenic artist for various community theater companies in the Pittsburgh area. Aleen also has experience in amusement park, circus, and haunted attraction entertainment, and those influence her hobbies (and film inspiration-see:CarousHELL).
Aleen’s favorite film directors include Wes Anderson, Guillermo del Toro, and Edgar Wright. She has an appreciation for films and plays that combine a strong color story and deep characters to tell a story that pulls you into an out-of-body experience during their run time.
The Premise
I:Scream is meant to be a PG-13 friendly sci-fi comedy that homages classic 1950s monster movies like ‘The Blob’ and ‘Tarantula’ but is set in modern day. I hope to hit some of the classic character tropes from this genre, as well as show my love for the era through my use of practical puppets and cheesy miniature effects.
The Plot
Charlie, our hopeless protagonist, is a scientist hopelessly in love with a childhood friend, Logainne. Their plans for an ice cream sundae date get shelved when Logainne heads to the town CCG competition, leaving Charlie behind at the lab. Through an innocent accident, some experimental DNA-altering chemicals fall into the mint chocolate chip treat, causing it to gain sentience. ‘Minty’ as it is referred to from this point on in the prose, has one desire: to eat everything it can.
When Charlie realizes what has happened, they take on the quest to cross the town and try to warn Logainne before the ice cream devours her. Along the way, Charlie teams up with their best friend, Sean, and the town’s retired ice cream man with a checkered past, Reggie.
Together the three must find a way to melt the minty menace all while Charlie is being pursued by the town’s nerd-hating cop, Barry Griswold. Will Charlie and the gang make it to the competition before Minty can destroy everything they hold dear? Only time will tell.
The Plan
I:Scream is slated for filming in the Summer of 2025. Production will take place over the course of 11 days of shooting in and around the Pittsburgh area. A few local businesses are already on board as locations, bringing some thanks and recognition to the family-owned brands. Casting is currently ongoing.
Mike Trebilcock (CarousHELL 3, Curtains for Christmas, Crabs!, Crackoon) is on the Silver Spotlight team again as the composer of the film. He’s already written a 50’s soda shop lyrical theme song akin to something you’d hear in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’.
Minty will be represented by a series of fabric puppets in varying sizes, as well as some practical slime and melt effects.
The movie will be shot on the Canon C100 with a variety of lenses.
Steve Rudzinski (Silver Spotlight Films) will be the Director of Photography for this project.
A Kickstarter is currently running (ends May 4th 2025) to raise a meager $5000 budget for actors, post-production and disk manufacturing costs. Rewards available include pre-orders on DVDs and Blu-rays, props from the film, and executive producer credits.
