I hate when someone reaches out to me to review their hard work and it’s a film that I don’t necessarily care for. I always feel bad when someone takes the time to reach out to me to review their projects and I end up writing out a negative review. I always try to find something positive with all the films I review regardless of if I was a fan of them or not. Sometime back filmmaker Jack Mulvanerty reached out for me to review a handful of his films. I had no idea what his films were about but I remember thoroughly enjoying his film that I reviewed in 2013.

Sadly, his films are just not meant for me but that doesn’t mean they are bad movies because they are not. They have beautiful cinematography, graphic images that a lot of extreme horror fans enjoy, and a beautiful star that draws the viewer’s attention. After watching a few of his films I was left with one more movie of his in my marathon. It was now time for Split which is a film featuring a segment from Mulvanerty and White Gardenia. Like always, I want to thank Jack for sending this one over.

**spoiler Alert** The film features two segments. The first is from Mulvanerty and features two people, a man and a woman, who explore their bodies and the boundaries of pain. The second segment from White Gardenia is more extreme with some serious body mutilation and extreme form of sexual acts. **Spoiler Alert**

I’ve seen several of Mulvanerty’s films by this point and none of them prepared me for the depravity that I was about to witness here. Honestly, this is another one from Mulvanerty that I didn’t really care for, but I can safely say that it is one of the most depraved films that I have ever seen.

The acting in this one is not something you can really review in a traditional sense. The cast in both segments go to great lengths for their art but you don’t have any character development and so forth as you would in a traditional film. The stories for both segments is lacking. Both segments focus on pushing the body’s pain tolerance while trying to shock or disgust the viewer. There is no real coherent story aside from body mutilation and sexuality.

Finally, the film has a lot of blood and sexually explicit acts but if you are like me and want to see some classic gore effects then you will be very disappointed. Overall, Split, like most of Mulvanerty’s other films, is not intended for everyone. People with a weak constitution or looking for a story-driven film will be very disappointed. However, if you grew up sneaking onto rotten.com then you may be interested in this fucked up piece of cinema.
