Dystopian Horror Satire, HEMET To Close Oceanside International Film Festival

Tony Olmos’ horror comedy “Hemet, or the Landlady Don’t Drink Tea” is about an odious and truly vile landlord who will stop at nothing to hold power over occupants of an apartment complex. When asked about the film, Olmos said it has implications mirroring the political situation in America throughout the last decade. It’s a horrifying tale of corruption and how abuse of power turns people against one another.

Brian Patrick Butler is the screenwriter who wrote the 89 minute feature film during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also stars in the movie in a cross-gender role as a crazy old landlady who has it out for her tenants, pitting them against each other in a series of events that take a deadly turn. It is a fictional horror story and dystopian satire that is set in the real location of Hemet in Riverside County, California.

The movie will close out the 13th annual Oceanside International Film Festival on February 24th, hosted by The Brooks Theater, 217 N Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA 92054. Tickets are $15 and include the two film blocks before it.

Butler is nominated for Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Lead Actor and is executive producer on the project as well. Also starring in the film is Kimberly Weinberger, Aimee La Joie, Randy Davison, Merrick McCartha, Matthew Rhodes, Nick Young, and Pierce Wallace.
