“Buffy” Cinematographer Michael Gershman Has Passed Away.

Sources including The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are reporting that Emmy Nominated cinematographer and world renowned camera man Michael Gershman has passed away. It’s being said that he was found deceased in his Malibu home on Saturday, March 10th, at age 73. His cause of death is currently unknown. Gershman is most known for his role as director of photography on cult television series “Buffy the Vampire” and for being the camera operator on numerous action thrillers starring Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Michael Gershman served as director of photography on the first five seasons of Joss Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer;” 82 episodes which spanned from 1997 to 2001. He was even trusted and respected enough to direct ten episodes of the Sarah Michelle Gellar lead series, even up until the saga went off the air in 2003. His other works in the realm of horror and science fiction include Brainstorm (1983), Deadly Messages (1985), Creator (1985) and The Wind (1986).

He also worked behind-the-scenes of The Gauntlet with Clint Eastwood, 5x Oscar Winner The Deer Hunt, Oscar Nominated Heaven’s Gate, Forced Vengeance with Chuck Norris, Uncommon Valor with Gene Hackman, 2x Golden Globe Nominated Midnight Run, Die Hard 2 with Bruce Willis, Under Siege 2 with Steven Seagal and We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson. This eventually lead him to his DP gig on “Crossing Jordan” from 2001 to 2003.
