Short of the Week: “The Maiden” (2016)

Did you ever get the feeling you were being watched?

Hello there fellow dalliers in dread, it’s Thakgore and today I bring you our Short of the Week, a nifty little haunted house tale called “The Maiden”. The story involves an industrious real estate agent who will go to any lengths in order to sell a difficult property. When the house’s sinister presence rears it’s ugly head she becomes even more determined to sell, sell, sell.

Directed by Michael Chaves, “The Maiden” looks and sounds amazing. The cinematography, in particular, is top shelf with several shots that are genuinely breathtaking. Most of the run time is devoted to lead actress Alia Raelynn and hinges on her giving a good performance. Fortunately Ms. Raelynn was more than up to the task. Everything about “The Maiden” feels like a full on Hollywood production and it honestly comes off as a truncated version of the haunted house films of today. Since a common complaint about these movies seems to be that they are filled with empty space in between scares that comes as some relief. Check it out.
