Where Are They Now? : Jennifer Rubin

Sometimes a great start is all you need to achieve a long lasting career in Hollywood. It seems like Jennifer Rubin is one of the bigger scream queens of the 1990’s who is drastically underrated. She was born in April of 1962 in Arizona and started her career as a competitive swimmer and model before transitioning into a full-fledged actress. Her first credited role is the supporting part of Taryn in Chuck Russell’s A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Jennifer’s part as Taryn has become one of the most icon Freddy Krueger kills after he stabs her to death with syringe fingers. The film opened at #1 at the box office in February 1987 and is the third highest grossing entry in the franchise. She followed up this accomplishment by playing the lead role of Cynthia in Andrew Fleming’s Bad Dreams, which saw her play a cult survivor targeted by the ghost her group worshiped. This flick opened at #3 at the box office in April 1988 and was a modest success.

For most of her career, she remained in lead and co-starring roles in horror and science fiction films. These titles include Drop Dead Gorgeous (1991), The Fear Inside (1992), Playmaker (1994), The Wasp Woman (1995) and Screamers. Christian Duguay’s Screamers saw Jennifer play the role of Jessica Hanson, who fights about blade-wielding robots who are wiping out the human race. The film opened at #7 at the box office in January 1996, but was a huge bomb. She also starred in Little Witches (1996), Last Lives (1997) and  Twists of Terror (1997). Outside of these genres, she appeared in The Gospel According to Harry, Red Scorpion 2 and an episode of “Miami Vice.”

So, where is Jennifer Rubin now?

Like most 1990’s scream queens, her career started to thin out in the 2000’s. She kicked off the millennium with starring roles in Uwe Boll’s Sanctimony (2000) and Fatal Conflict (2000). She continued to act, but nothing worth mentioning occurred until she was featured in Dreamweavers (2006). Three years later she starred as Dr. Jo Summers in mock-buster Transmorphers: Fall of Man (2009) before landing a very small part in Heebie Jeebies (2013). Her last credited role as of this entry was a small part in drama Untold in 2014. As of 2015 she was making public appearances at horror conventions, but no further information can be found on what she’s been up to.
