It has come to my attention that Hammer Films actress Yvonne Monlaur has passed away. Though she retired from acting back in 1969, Yvonne was keeping a blog/journal up until the time of her death on Tuesday at age 77. A close family friend penned the most recent entry, which states, “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of Yvonne Monlaur. She left us yesterday, Tuesday, April 18. According to her wishes and those of her son, Alexis, this blog will remain online to celebrate her memory.”
A French native, Ms. Monlaur appeared in over 30 productions between 1955 and 1969. While most of them were German and Italian thrillers and comedies, she managed to dip her toes in the blood red pool of horror in the early 60’s. She co-starred in three horror films as Nicole Valet in Circus of Horrors (1960), and Hammer Films’ The Brides of Dracula (1960) as Marianne and The Terror of Tongs (1961) as Lee. Though she hadn’t appeared in film in decades, it is reported that she was a frequent horror con guest in recent years.
All of us here at HorrorSociety.com send our condolences to her family, friends and fans. May her legacy in horror film carry her memory to further generations of thrill seekers.
R.I.P. Yvonne Monlaur
