And just like that Davide Melini returns with a follow up to his previous short film, Lion. This time the UK writer and director is moving away from creature feature thrillers and tackling the Italian film genre of giallo, a very popular style of film-making that still holds up after decades of artistic and frightening titles. Melini’s new short, Deep Shock, is inspired by Dario Argento’s Deep Red and Mario Bava’s Shock, and follows a young woman who can’t overcome the deaths of her grandfather and older sister. The trauma and lack of sleep causes her to embark on a journey filled with apparitions and murders, but is it all just in her mind?
Deep Shock stars Muireann Bird, Francesc Pagès, George Bracebridge, Lorna Larkin, Erica Prior and Luis Fernández de Eribe. It was produced by a ton of noteworthy, iconic producers including Luca Vannella (Harry Potter), Alexis Continente (Transformers: The Last Knight), Vincenzo Mastrantonio (Titanic, Moulin Rouge), Bobby Holland (007 – Quantum of Solace), Ferdinando Merolla (Hannibal Rising) and Roberto Paglialunga. Peep the Deep Shock trailer below, as the short film is currently in post-production and awaiting a wide release in festivals around the world.
