Yesterday was Valentine’s Day, so I decided to dedicate this edition of Where Are They Now to Thomas Kovacs. You’ll understand the connection in a minute. Thomas started his career in Hollywood in 1980 with small parts in comedies Hog Wild and Pick-up Summer and in David Cronenberg’s Scanners in 1981. This eventually lead him to playing the role of Mike in the original My Bloody Valentine of 1981. My Bloody Valentine was a success at the box office and has gone on to become a cult classic, all while featuring Kovacs’ double impalement death discovery. Then, while things were going so well, he left the entertainment industry behind to pursue other ventures.
So, where is Thomas Kovacs now?
In an interview I found with Hysteria-Lives discussing his time with My Bloody Valentine, Kovacs revealed that he left acting behind to pursue a career in music production and song writing. He states in the interview that he was achieving some success in that medium of art, but that he was interested in getting back into acting again. So, 29 years later, Thomas made a return to acting from 2010 to 2014 with a string of guest appearances in television shows including “Close Encounters,” “Dual Suspects,” “Ghostly Encounters,” “Inventions That Shocked the World,” and “Paranormal Witness.”
He returned to the horror genre with a co-starring role in Virginia Obscura (2014). His most recent credit is a guest appearance in “Fear Thy Neighbor” in 2016. Thomas is still recording and producing music. His schedule of upcoming performances can be found here: https://www.thomaskovacs.com/.
