Roy Frumkes, whose screen credits include The Definitive Document of the Dead, The Substitute franchise and The Johnsons, will screen the legendary black comedy Street Trash at Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival for the film’s 30th anniversary on Saturday, November 5th at Dipson’s Eastern Hills Cinemas. Frumkes wrote and produced the film, which was directed by James Muro. The film was released in Europe in 1986, ahead of its US release. Frumkes serves as the judge of Buffalo Dreams’ Original Screenplay competition this year. The festival previously honored him with its Dedication to Excellence in Independent Filmmaking award. He has taught film production and screenwriting at New York’s School of Visual Arts for 40 years, is a member of the National Board of Review, and owns and operates Films in Review, the website incarnation of the nation’s first film magazine.

“Street Trash is one of those films that really needs to be seen on a big screen, with a howling audience, to be fully appreciated,” says Buffalo Dreams co-founder Gregory Lamberson. “The colors in that film are so audacious, and the audio mix is fantastic – perfect for Eastern Hills Cinemas’ superior sound system. I’m confident this will be one of the best presentations the film has ever had, and Roy will do a Q&A afterward, making this an even rarer experience. He’s a fantastic storyteller with a great fondness for Buffalo.”

Upon the film’s release, The New York Times wrote, “‘STREET TRASH,” now befouling the Eighth Street Cinema, is the stuff that civil-libertarian nightmares are made of. It claims no redeeming social value, and you don’t have to be a Supreme Court nominee to question whether the Founders could have foreseen anything like it when they wrote the First Amendment.” The film went on to become a beloved cult film treasured by fans of John Waters, Sam Raimi and Troma Entertainment. The story uses a case of bad wine that causes each imbiber to melt into a fountain of dayglow colors to link warring winos, two runaway brothers, and an obsessive cop.
