Zombieland 2 is Still in Development! Let’s Grab A Twinkie to Celebrate!

We’ve heard this one before. Twice, I think. But, following a logo reveal at CinemaCon last April, it seems like the long awaited sequel to horror-comedy Zombieland may actually make some headway towards a real production date! The world of cinema went into a tailspin the other night when writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese sat down with Kevin Smith and Greg Gunberg on AMC’s “Geeking Out” to discuss some of their current projects and career highlights.

Wernick and Reese took this as their cue to officially announce that Zombieland 2 is in development, telling the hosts at “Geeking Out” they’re breaking the news, “that we’re on Zombieland 2 right now. We’re sitting with Woody Harrelson tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited.” [SOURCE]

Hopefully the inclination that “all the cast is pretty excited” means talks are already underway with Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin to return. Honestly, it just wouldn’t be the same without them on board, so fingers crossed here! Unfortunately, it sounds like Zombieland 2 has recently entered into development and I can only assume that it’ll be another three months before we hear anything concrete!

Can we look for Zombieland 2 in 2017? I sure hope so!

Zombieland was released in 2009 by Relative Media and Columbia Pictures. Produced on a budget of $28,000,000 the horror-comedy went on to make $76,000,000 at the box office in America and $27,000,000 overseas. A television series was greenlit by Amazon Studios in 2013, but it was cancelled after the pilot episode failed to gain any positive reviews and suffered lackluster streams.
