HG Lewis “Gore-A-Thon” & appearance, and Camp Blood Drive-In Marathon in Philly/PA!

Hey folks,

My name is Dan Fraga, and I’m a film programmer for the cult movie co-operative Exhumed Films in Philadelphia, PA in the U.S. I just wanted to give you some information about two cinema events Exhumed is presenting in August. We are committed to screening only from original 35mm film prints, so we try to provide a cinematic experience audiences can’t get from most theaters in our area. We are particularly excited for these upcoming screenings and the guests who will be joining us!

First up is the “HG Lewis Gore-A-Thon” at lnternational House Philadelphia on Sunday, August 21, which will be hosted by the legendary cult movie icon himself, Herschell Gordon Lewis! Writer/producer/director Herschel Gordon Lewis forever changed the face of genre cinema when he unleashed the gruesome 1963 horror comedy BLOOD FEAST, creating the first ever “gore” film. Over the next 10 years, HG Lewis directed some of the most iconic splatter movies of all time–including fan favorites such as 2000 MANIACS, COLOR ME BLOOD RED and THE WIZARD OF GORE—and earned himself the moniker “The Godfather of Gore,” inspiring a generation of independent filmmakers such as self-proclaimed Lewis fanatic John Waters. Exhumed Films is honored to present a retrospective of Mr. Lewis’s movies and to bring the seminal filmmaker to International House Philadelphia to speak about his long career in cinema. At 87 years old, Herschel Gordon Lewis is truly a living legend—we hope fans will join us in celebrating his life and works by watching five of his most outrageous movies. There will also be autograph signings, Q & A sessions, an HG Lewis sing-along, and much more!

Tickets are $30 and available through Ticketfly; more details about the event can be found here:

Our other big event in August is “Camp Blood Part II” at the Mahoning Drive-In in Lehighton, PA on August 26-27. We will present three camping-themed horror films each night on a huge screen in the middle of the woods in the Poconos mountains, with on site camping, a costumed “Jason” stalking the grounds of the drive-in, and summer camp themed games & activities before the movies! Friday August 26 will feature FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: A NEW BEGINNING, FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES, and FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD. Saturday night will feature THE BURNING, JUST BEFORE DAWN, and NIGHT WARNING. Saturday’s show will also feature an appearance by filmmaker Jeff Lieberman, director of JUST BEFORE DAWN and the cult film favorites SQUIRM and BLUE SUNSHINE.

More details about “Camp Blood Part II” can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1165835926783121/permalink/1239406976092682/

Again, we’re just trying to get the word out to as many folks as possible—we don’t make a personal profit off these screenings, we just re-invest any proceeds into the purchase of more 35mm film prints to facilitate future screenings! Please help us out by spreading the word about the events, or–if you’re on the east coast–making it out to the shows! Hope to see many of you soon!
