A group of survivors escapes an antibiotic-resistant pandemic on a damaged 747 to find safety abroad — but one of them is infected, and they must decide whether or not to land.
Thats what you get when you Google this movie. It is easy to think that this could be some sort of Snakes on Plane type of flick. But I assure you it is not. The Carrier is an authentically good movie.
The opening scene starts off with a very compelling reason to be invested in the world being built around you and it leaves you understanding the dour note that will be felt throughout the movie. By the time the opening credits rolled I was hooked.
The Carrier is a horror movie in the same sense that 28 Days Later or Assault on Precinct 13 could be labeled as such. It is relentless, unforgiving and completely fulfilling. Like many of the greats what really pushed it to another level was the unique and atmospheric score.
The characters were believable and it was simple to see that they had been living in this post apocalyptic world trying to survive for some time before the movie began. They were willing to make decisions that indicated they had already been hardened by the world around them.
The last 15 minutes goes exactly where you would request of it. There are quite a few really badass characters in The Carrier who do really badass things. There were also many great lines in this movie that where delivered perfectly, allowing what could have been a corny piece of dialogue to turn in to a completely realistic exchange.
‘Why’d you let him go… I would have shot him.’ – Guy
‘You would have missed and I need the bullets’ – Other Guy
At the end I was literally thumping my fist in to the palm of my hand in excitement. This movie starts off immediately dragging you in and never really lets go. There are few lulls and a constant level of excitement that somehow found a way to keep adding more levels on top leading to a pretty disturbing final scene.
The Carrier is a dark movie with unsettling moments and graphic deformities caused by the world ending disease. It is a serious movie, that has very little in the manner of comedic tension breakers. The characters are brought on a nightmare of a journey that has no pit stops and only keeps getting more intense by the moment.
Watch this movie, it is worth your time.
