Having taken two animation classes while in film school, I understand the art of claymation and stop motion animation and have great respect for anyone who uses that medium to tell a story. It takes a long time and a lot of effort, more-so than film that’s shot as a traditional narrative with human actors. That’s why I’m happy to give Trent Shy’s Monster Zombie short a little shine in hopes of pushing it over the one million mark on YouTube.
Described as being low in plot but high in gore and monsters, this four minute claymation was created as an homage to grindhouse films and VHS tapes and I see a strong inspiration from Evil Dead, too. “Monster Zombie Claymation” is probably one of the most stylized claymations I’ve seen, with tons of miniature sets and characters showcased which undoubtedly took hours upon hours to hand create. It shows a love for the project which definitely shines through.
