Sources in the UK are reporting that actor Gareth Thomas has passed away. His death is attributed to heart failure, at the age of just 71. A fan site for his most popular television work confirmed his death with the message: “It is with deep sadness that we have to announce that Gareth Thomas passed away this morning, 13th April 2016, from heart failure. Our thoughts are with his wife Linda, and his family and friends.”
Gareth appeared in dozens of television shows and movies that were dramatic, medieval and Shakespearian; but he also appeared in a number of science fiction and fantasy roles. His film roles include small parts in Five Million Years to Earth (1967), The Witch’s Daughter (1996) and Merlin (1998). As far as television is concerned, he made guest appearances on popular shows like “Shadows” in 1975, “Hammer House of Horror” in 1980, “Shadows of Darkness” in 1983, ‘Tales of the Unexpected” in 1988, “The Strangerers” in 2000, “Torchwood” in 2006 and “Midsomer Murders” in 2007.
He is most known, however, for his important recurring role as Roj Blake in 28 episodes of scifi’s “Blake 7,” which has since become a cult classic after airing from 1978 to 1981. He also held a recurring role in “Children of Stones” in 1977.
All of us here at HorrorSociety.com send our condolences to his family, friends and fans.
