SONATA ARCTICA working on new album; North American tour kicks off soon!

Finnish power metal group Sonata Arctica have announced they’re working on a new album. It will be the follow up to their successful Pariah’s Child record. In advance of hitting the studio, the band will tour North America in support of Nightwish. Read on for more details and tour dates.

Finnish melodic metal quintet SONATA ARCTICA has started to work on the follow-up album to the successful Pariah’s Child record. Beyond that, the band will tour North America as direct support for NIGHTWISH starting February 19th!

“At the moment we’re taking a break from the recording of our 9th studio album and heading out with NIGHTWISH for a couple of months in North America. When we get back we’re more or less going straight into the studio to continue working on the album”, comments keyboard player Henrik “Henkka” Klingenberg.

As with Pariah’s Child, the currently untitled upcoming ninth studio album will be recorded at “Studio 57”. “As far as the musical direction of the album, it’s really too early to say how it will turn out. Having said that, I expect the usual SONATA ARCTICA trademarks to be found on it. We will however get this album done in time for a fall release and we’ll tell you all more as things progress…”

Finnish melodic metal heroes SONATA ARCTICA will be the direct support for the highly anticipated 26-date North American NIGHTWISH tour. The trek launches in Sayreville, New Jersey on February 19th, hitting six Canadian cities plus Pittsburgh, Anaheim, and New Orleans, then closing out in Tampa, Florida on March 23rd. Opening for the tour will be Dutch symphonic metallers DELAIN.
