From The Press Release

Melbourne death/doom veterans INVERLOCH have shared a second crushing track from their highly-anticipated full-length debut Distance | Collapsed.

“The Empyrean Torment,” currently playing at indie music portal Stereogum, demonstrates the band’s monumental mastery of tension and texture, and can be streamed now at THIS LOCATION.

Issues Stereogum of the track, “INVERLOCH are a technically young band, but their roots run deep. Guitarist Matthew Scarajew and drummer Paul Mazziotta were pivotal members of Disembowelment, whose sole 1993 album Transcendence Into The Peripheral helped define the chiming, glacially-paced death metal mutation which eventually became funeral doom in the hands of acts like Evoken, Skepticism, and Esoteric. INVERLOCH practices this sepulchral discipline with mastery befitting their history on Distance | Collapsed, their first full-length effort under the new moniker. ‘The Empyrean Torment’ largely consists of a particularly vivid example of this approach – the band’s weight swings like a pendulum from beat to ponderous beat, accentuating a series of despondent melodies that sound like they’re wailing out of some vast cave. But INVERLOCH can crush at speed, too, and prove it at the song’s rabid conclusion.”

The album’s title track, “Distance Collapsed (In Rubble),” also premiered this past January via Decibel Magazine and can be heard at THIS LOCATION:

Distance | Collapsed will see a global release on CD, LP and digitally via Relapse Records on March 4th, 2016. Digital preorders are available via the band’s Bandcamp page HERE and physical preorders, including limited edition bundles, can be purchased via Relapse.com at THIS LOCATION.
Additionally, INVERLOCH have been confirmed for SWR Barroselas Metal Fest in Portugal this coming April, and is set to announce more festival/tour appearances soon.

Since the demise of Australia’s Disembowelment in 1993, a void has developed for the many fans of the band’s epic blend of slow atmospherics and blasting brutality. Few have succeeded in channeling this legacy, until Melbourne’s INVERLOCH — featuring half of the legendary Disembowelment — took the global stage in the late 2000s.
In 2012, INVERLOCH released their debut EP Dusk | Subside, a crushing offering featuring bursts of pounding blast beats that erupt out of tranquil soundscapes. INVERLOCH deftly follows up on the sound and feel that Disembowelment first trademarked in the early 1990s and take it into 2016 with their own, cold, brutal sound and style. The band played their first-ever show at the legendary Roadburn Festival in The Netherlands, and has been lauded worldwide by renowned publications such as Decibel and Terrorizer, the latter of which stated that INVERLOCH, “[push] the boundaries of heaviness beyond their breaking point.”
Now INVERLOCH returns with one of the most anticipated full-length debuts the metal underground has seen in years. With the five-track Distance | Collapsed, the band has crafted another masterpiece boasting forty minutes of absolutely crushing death/doom that Decibel Magazine has named among one of the Top 20 Most Anticipated Albums of 2016. Buzzsaw death metal riffs and bowel splitting vocals mix alongside earth shaking dirges and blasting percussion, all wrapped together in a haunting yet beautifully dreadful atmosphere. With Distance | Collapsed, INVERLOCH proves they are one of the finest bands making extreme music today.
