In some surprisingly great news today, it’s being reported that filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy,Crimson Peak, Pacific Rim) is set to develop and direct a film adaptation of the popular children’s books, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark by author Alvin Schwartz.

Del Toro is a huge fan of the books and will be working from a script by John August for CBS Films.

When this will all happen is unclear; del Toro is juggling a few projects that include a remake of Fantastic Voyage at Fox, a Pacific Rim sequel and a personal project he’s kept close to the vest.

Plot specifics are being kept under wraps, but those who’ve read the books recall how much stories like The Red Spot, Harold and The Wendigo haunted their dreams.

In addition to potentially directing, del Toro will also produce the film alongside Sean Daniel, Jason Brown and Elizabeth Grave. Alvin Schwartz’s trilogy of short story collections have sold more than 7 million copies worldwide.

We will be keeping a very close eye on this project and any news that develops will be reported by us here at Horror Society, so keep it bookmarked right here for all the latest!
