Sad and shocking news today in the world of music and heavy metal as Motorhead frontman Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister has passed away at the age of 70. The man who everyone thought to be immortal succumbed to a short battle with cancer today. Lemmy was the lead singer and bassist for the legendary heavy metal band Motorhead. Lemmy had just turned 70 on December 24th and has suffered from many health ailments the past year, none of which finally killed him.
The band’s official Facebook page had this to say:
There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.
We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.
We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.
Have a drink or few.
Share stories.
Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.
HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.

Born to lose, lived to win.
Condolences are coming in from across the globe tonight as everyone from metal writer Eddie Trunk, Ozzy Osbourne, wrestler Triple H, King Diamond, and more are sending their prayers to Lemmy’s family.
As I said before, Lemmy was a man whom everyone thought would live forever…and they were right. His music and his memories will truly live on forever through all of the hearts of his fans and family. This is such shocking news, I really am at a loss for words. We will report more when we get more details from the band, until then, bang your head for Lemmy, he would’ve wanted that. Here’s my favorite Motorhead track. “Ace of Spades.”
