Tonight during The Walking Dead, AMC unveiled its first trailer for the upcoming Preacher series. Preacher was developed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who directed the pilot, and Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad), who wrote the script and will serve as showrunner. From Sony TV and AMC Studios, series is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic. AMC has said it plans to debut the series midyear 2016.

The show centers on Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to find God — literally. Co-starring are Ian Colletti as Eugene Root aka Arseface, W. Earl Brown as Hugo Root and Lucy Griffiths as Emily.
Preacher was originally a comic for DC’s Vertigo label from 1995-2000. The comic gained a cult following for its dark and violent content. Rogen and Goldberg have been trying to get this series made for seven years with no luck until recently.
