I have lived in West Virginia for most of my life and I have to admit that it is pretty boring here in the mountain state. What makes matters worse, is that I grew up in southern WV where it was an hours drive to go shopping and picking up amazing horror flicks was a no go until online shopping came about.
Very few things happen in the state that I would deem interesting but in 1966 the world would be looking at ol’ wild and wonderful. Since then the legend of the Mothman has captivated millions of people all over the world and keeps Point Pleasant, WV busy with tourists.
I grew up on urban legends and cryptozoology and knowing I lived in the same state as the Mothman and as the Braxton County Monster really excited me. Sadly, I had never been to Point Pleasant even though I now live just a little under 2 hours away but that all changed today when my amazing wife took me there for Father’s Day. The focal point of Point Pleasant is the statue of the Mothman standing in the center of town and is known to be the center point for traveler’s photos. I, too, fell under the allure and had my picture taken with the statue and it was then that I noticed the Mothman Museum setting directly beside the statue. I had to go in and I am glad I did because I had one hell of a time.
Those that are fans of urban legends, cryptos, and conspiracy theories really need to head over to Point Pleasant if you are in driving distance and check this place out. The museum is home to rare documents from witnesses, collectibles such as comics, toys, and other memorabilia, and a large collection of props used in the film Mothman Prophecies.
Check out some of the photos I was able to take while I was there today!
