From Software has returned with their all new blood-soaked adventure Bloodborne. The game was previously called Project Beast as a working title back in 2014 when the game’s images were leaked. Due to the many complaints of their previous title Dark Souls 2 being “too easy” compared to the other titles, From Software has taken away some advantages the players had such as shields, enemies despawning, and rolling while locked on to a enemy. In addition to removing a few tactics, the game has added new weapons such as pistols, blunderbusses, and trick weapons. Trick weapons are mainly one-handed bladed weapons that have the ability to transform into other types of two handed weapons. Bloodborne’s location is absolutely beautiful and terrifying all wrapped up in one. The game’s location was based on Victorian gothic themed story Dracula and many buildings were modeled after areas in Romania.
You play as a hunter who awakens in the cursed town of Yharnam on the night of “The Hunt.” Majority of the town’s people have been affected by the curse and are now half beast-like creatures. As the game begins you find yourself in the town’s clinic. As you venture through the Clinic you encounter your first enemy, a large wolf-like beast where death is your only option. Fret not the encounter will always end in your first death. After your defeat, you will arrive in the Hunter’s Dream and receive your first tools to help you get revenge. The Hunter’s Dream is a safe haven for players which will allow them to purchase items for their adventure, level up, and make modifications to weapons. As you progress in the game you will uncover new areas such as a forest, a castle, the old Yharnam and a lake where you walk on water. Much like in the souls series your currency is earned by defeating enemies but will be lost by dying, the only only of recovering them is by returning to the area on where you last died. Although most can’t be seen NPCs can help you by giving hints on where to go next, but most will ignore you due to the hunt and will stay inside their homes. The game makes it clear that not all hunters will be allies. Other players can aid in your quest via the game’s online co-op feature, while some may enter your world to only give you grief. As you venture further into town, you’ll slowly uncover the mystery of how the curse began.
Bloodborne is perfect for fans of the Souls series, as well players who are new to the series and enjoy a challenging game. The game runs amazing in 30 frames per second and at 1080p for those of you who love high graphical games. Bloodborne is available now as a Playstation 4 exclusive. Happy Hunting!
