Have You Done the Charlie Charlie Challenge Yet?

This game is sweeping social media networks as the latest teen craze, one that involves participants actively trying to contact the dead. It’s a singular, non-expensive version of the Ouija Board, but I doubt that the Charlie Charlie Challenge will live in the same infamy as Bloody Mary, Light as a Feather/Stiff as a Board and other supernatural games. Basically to start, all you need is two pencils, a piece of paper and an overactive imagination. Arrange the pencils so they form a cross (the bottom pencil is vertical, the top is horizontal) and write yes and no on the diagonal quadrants. To summon the supernatural spirit, you have to ask “Charlie Charlie are you there?” followed by “Charlie Charlie can we play?” until the entity answers.

The origins of who, or what, Charlie Charlie was in his past life have differed depending on who you ask or where you look. Some people will tell you Charlie Charlie is a young boy who committed suicide while others tell you he’s the victim of a fatal car crash, and then there’s the overall majority who will tell you that he is an evil, demonic deity with roots in Mexican folklore. But as you know with using a Ouija Board, the spirits you commune with are not always truthful. Once Charlie Charlie decides to play, you can only ask him questions that can be answered with yes or no. Eventually, the top/horizontal pencil will move to either answer and then you can move on to the next question. Is it gravity moving the pencils due to the slightest of vibrations or due to an evil force?

Several participants of the Charlie Charlie Challenge have reported strange happenings such as electronics turning off, objects moving on their own and strange noises. However; it’s hard to distinguish whether the instances are due to actual paranormal occurrences or teenagers just overreacting for the sake of a good story.
