Right now producer/director James Wan has to be on top of the world. His latest directorial effort, Universal’s Furious 7 just crossed the 1 Billion dollar mark worldwide and has become Universal’s highest grossing film ever. Today, it has been announced that Wan and Roy Lee will produce a remake of the 1983 horror film based on the true story of demonic possession, The Entity and along with Wan, other members of The Conjuring’s creative team will be on board this film as well.
Along with Wan producing, brothers Chad and Carey Hayes will be on board to pen the script. The trio worked together in the same capacity on New Line’s 2013 surprise hit. Roy Lee, another name in the horror world, will produce Entity with Wan.
The Entity purportedly told the story of Carla Moran, a single mom who was abused physically and sexually by a supernatural demon.
Barbara Hershey played Moran while Ron Silver played a doctor who believes the woman is actually abusing herself and experiencing delusions brought about by a troubled past. Also figuring into the proceedings were a young son, a boyfriend and two parapsychologists.
Wan, (pictured right) who directed Conjuring, is keen on maintaining his horror roots and will shoot The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist this fall. He is not attached to direct Entity.
The Hayes brothers, also have deep horror roots. They wrote both Conjuring and Conjuring 2, and were co-producers on Annabelle, the Conjuring spinoff that Wan produced. They also penned horror flicks House of Wax and The Reaping.
Roy Lee is the producer who introduced North American audiences to Asian horror via movies such as The Ring and The Grudge. He has The Poltergeist remake hitting screens May 22 and is prepping a summer start for Cary Fukunaga’s adaptation of Stephen King’s It.
I love starting my mornings with some great news! :)
