Some great news has now become official. It has been rumored for a few weeks now that Mitch Pileggi would be returning to Fox’s 6-part event series, The X-Files and now we have it from the man himself. Pileggi has officially announced over Twitter that he will be returning to the role of Walter Skinner, Mulder & Scully’s boss at the FBI.
Pileggi’s Skinner is the only other character aside from Duchovny’s Mulder and Anderson’s Scully to appear in all nine seasons of the Fox drama and both movies. (He also appeared in the short-lived X-Files spinoff, The Lone Gunmen.) Skinner was Mulder and Scully’s boss, ally, occasional enemy and friend throughout the run of the franchise.
Pileggi announced his return to the series Monday via Twitter:
Very happy to announce that Walter Skinner will once again be getting all grumpy and bitchy with his two wayward kids. Very happy.

This news in not unexpected but awesome just the same. I would expect to see similar announcements for other X-Files alumni in the coming weeks.
