It’s unfortunate that I must announce the passing of French actor Louis Jourdan. Jourdan ruled cinema from the 1940s to the 1960s with his impeccable charm and starring roles in dramas, thrillers, and musicals. It was announced late last night that he passed away on Saturday in his home in Beverly Hills at age 93.
With almost 90 credits to his resume Louis had parts in hit and award winning films including Three Coins in the Fountain (1954), Gigi (1958), Made in Paris (1966), Run a Crooked Mile (1969), The Count of Monte-Cristo (1975), The Man in the Iron Mask (1977), and Octopussy (1983).
Being that we are a horror themed website, though, I can say that he appeared in a number of horror features such as Julie (1956), Fear No Evil (1969), Ritual of Evil (1970), and Count Dracula (1977). His biggest role in our favorite genre was the character of Arcane in Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing in 1982 and its sequel, The Return of Swamp Thing in 1989. He starred alongside Adrienne Barbeau and Heather Locklear.
All of us here at HorrorSociety.com extent our sympathies to Louis’ family, friends, and fans.
R.I.P. Louis Jourdan
