A24 is nearing the witching hour on a U.S. distribution deal for The Witch that will come in at low seven-figures. A24’s alliance with DirectTV is part of the mix. Exact figures have not been revealed as of yet. The acquisition deal is for the U.S. only with foreign rights still up for grabs.
The movie doesn’t premiere until Tuesday but screenings have taken place, with the movie and the filmmaker generating terrific word of mouth.
The Witch is directed and written by Robert Eggers and stars Kate Dickie, Ralph Ineson and Anya Taylor-Joy.
It’s set in 1630s New England where a couple leads a devout Christian life with five children, homesteading on the edge of an impassable wilderness.
