Have you ever wondered how they made all those creepy sounds in horror films?
They’re made by using a very unknown musical instrument called a Waterphone.
I don’t hear too many of the sounds of a Waterphone anymore, but to me they’re a piece of almost every horror movie soundtrack of the 70s, 80s, and early 90s.
The video below showcases the instrument in all its glory and the player demonstrates how to make all of the various sounds. The video was uploaded to YouTube in 2007, but only appears to be going viral on social media in 2015.
