Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)
On tap tonight is the greatest horror comedy of all time! Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein is the best monster mashup of them all. What better film to watch to get you into the holiday spirit than one that features the greatest collection of Universal monsters all in one place! This classic comedy is one of Abbott and Costello’s best films and has some of their most classic gags. On a sad note, this was the last film in the Universal Monster cycle as audiences were tiring of Frankenstein, Dracula and The Wolf Man. There wouldn’t be another film in the monster series until 1954 when The Creature from the Black Lagoon caused a resurgence.
Many people think that Bela Lugosi played the character of Dracula many times in film, but this film was only his second and last time he played the character in film. Also, be on the listen for a cameo appearance by horror great Vincent Price.
Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein is written by Robert Lees, Frederic I. Rinaldo, John Grant, based on characters created by Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker. It is directed by Charles Barton (Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff).
The cast includes Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Lon Chaney Jr., Bela Lugosi, Glenn Strange, Lenore Aubert, Jane Randolph, Frank Ferguson.
