Rob Zombie’s Halloween (2007)
This film seems to divide horror fans right down the middle. Fans of Rob Zombie and his movies love it, fans of the original John Carpenter Halloween film…not so much. I kind of sit right down the middle on this one. I hold the original Halloween in the utmost highest of regards, so in that respect, I wasn’t thrilled when they announced that Zombie would be remaking the seminal classic. If you’ve never heard of or seen the Carpenter classic, Zombie’s film would be pretty darn good to you. With that being said, it’s hard to put it up against Carpenter’s version, it doesn’t even come close. I really liked what Zombie did with Michael Myers backstory, fleshing it out more than what was in the original film.
It still is a really great film to watch during the holiday season. I think if you take it on its own terms it’s really worth checking out.
Rob Zombie’s Halloween is written by Rob Zombie, based on the original screenplay by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. Rob Zombie also directed. The film stars Malcolm McDowell, Brad Dourif, Tyler Mane, Daeg Faerch, Sheri Moon Zombie, William Forsythe, Richard Lynch, Udo Kier.
