Recently, we brought you the news of Universal acquiring the rights to Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles book series. Universal has set Brian Grazer to produce along with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. News has developed that The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone is interested in writing and directing a new Lestat film based on Rice’s novels. Read on for more details.
Rumors say that Boone will both write and direct the pic and that Grazer, Kurtzman, and Orci are all on board with the choice. Universal also needs to approve this as well, but supposedly, this is only a mere formality.
Universal and Imagine will have access to the entire body of existing and future novels in Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles series, including the adapted screenplay for Tale of the Body Thief, written by Rice’s son, author Christopher Rice.
Other novels in the series include Interview with the Vampire and the upcoming Prince Lestat.
The new film is not expected to be a remake of Interview With The Vampire, rather a combination of The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned.
Boone is currently prepping his three-hour, faithful adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Stand for Warner Bros. and CBS Films. King has already blessed Boone’s draft and casting is expected to begin soon, with Lestat expected to follow The Stand.
