Just yesterday we brought you news of The Mummy remake for Universal as Alex Kurtzman was tapped to helm the film. Things seem to be moving right along as Universal has dated the film for the summer blockbuster season of 2016. We can now expect The Mummy to premiere on June 24th, 2016. Get more details below.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, The Mummy will debut on June 24, 2016.
Alex Kurtzman, who wrote some of the biggest franchise players in the past decade with former writing partner Roberto Orci, already is producing the movie with Chris Morgan. Kurtzman and Morgan are weaving together a cinematic universe for Universal based on its movie monsters properties, and The Mummy is due to be the first one out of the gate.
Some new details on the film have come to light. Although plot details are being kept quiet for now, word has it that the new film will be set in the present day and it’s not so much a horror film as it is an action/adventure film with horror elements. It is also said that the film will have new characters and not have anything to do with the previous films.
I don’t really like the direction the film is going, making it an action/adventure film with less horror. The studio already tried that with Stephen Sommers trilogy, now it’s time to make a straight up horror film, but I digress.
More on The Mummy as it comes in.
