Here in Chicago we’re particularly proud of an institution that has been going strong for the last four decades. I’m talking about the legendary Chicago TV personality and broadcaster, horror host Rich Koz aka Svengoolie! Seen in millions of homes across the country since becoming syndicated in 2011 as part of the Me-TV Network, Svengoolie’s own unique brand of humor and horror films have been a staple of Saturday nights since 1979.
Wonderful news has been announced The Illinois General Assembly has bestowed a tremendous honor on MeTV’s very own Svengoolie. According to Illinois House Resolution 1041, passed on may 21, 2014, this upcoming October 31, 2014 will be officially declared Svengoolie/Rich Koz Day in the State of Illinois!
According to Me-TV on Facebook, The legendary horror host is being honored for his four decades of service, and the Bill correctly points out that Sven “has brought countless generations of families around the television to enjoy his unique sense of humor” and that, without him, “Saturday nights in millions of households across the nation would be like Halloween and scary movies.”
We couldn’t imagine a more fitting tribute to Svengoolie, or a more perfect day for to mark the occasion—Halloween, 2014. Congratulations, Svengoolie/Rick Koz!

Personally, I’ve watched Svengoolie since the very beginning back in his “Son of Svengoolie” days and I can’t imagine a more fitting honor for the man that helped cement my love of horror films than to have October 31, Halloween, as a day dedicated to Rich Koz/Svengoolie.
For myself and all of us here at Horror Society, I’d like to offer my congratulations to Rich Koz/Svengoolie for a outstanding honor and a job well done!
