‘Alien’ designer H.R. Giger has passed away.

H.R. GigerOscar Winner H.R. Giger has passed away this morning from complications stemming from a fall. He was 74-years-old.

Giger is most known for creating the alien creature in Ridley Scott’s Alien. He always stuck with the franchise, lending his vision to all sequels including Aliens, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, Alien vs. Predator, and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. He also served as a creative consultant on Poltergeist 2 and Killer Condom, creature designer on Species 1 and 2, and elements designer on Prometheus.

As a young man, H.R.’s artistic collections received numerous negative reviews from critics and onlookers for his macabre taste in robots, sex, and death. It wasn’t until his mother encouraged him to pursue a career that would make him happy that his role in creating one of the most iconic alien’s of all time was born.

Aliens was one of the first horror films I ever saw, and for that I thank him!
