Philadelphia, PA – Canadian writer Cheyenne Leo is scaring the life out of would be forest dwellers with Summertime: A Tale of Horror and Suspense. Published by Shorehouse Books, The book centers on four friends who become stranded during a camping trip in the forests of British Columbia and soon realize that they are not alone in the woods. What transpires will leave readers sitting on the edge of their seats and wondering if what is in the woods is not in their homes as well.
No, this is not about the film club Darkness Reigns, or the Australian Heavy Metal band. Actually, when I began MY Darkness Reigns in 2009, the year I graduated, I had no idea whatsoever that there were OTHER Darkness Reigns out there. I do not own nor have any part with them, nor do they have it with me.
Leo, who lives in rural British Columbia, draws from her own life experiences in this horror tale. As a follower of Wicca, Leo has dedicated herself to her natural surroundings and she combines this knowledge of the natural world with a terrifying childhood phobia to bring this horror story to life.
“This book truly is a part of me. My fears, anger and love of nature comes through loud and clear,” Leo notes. “But there is also the lesson in here and that is we need to respect nature and life that is all around us. When we don’t, bad things can happen.”
Leo’s love of horror stems from her younger childhood days when her stepfather would allow her to watch scary movies. Her mother tried to prevent the horrorfests, but Leo’s love of terror won out. The movies would not only frighten her, but inspire her and she began composing her own tales of terror.
